A Claude alternative that lets you choose the model.
Looking past Claude usually means wanting more choice: other models next to Anthropic's, the API accounts you already pay for, or one assistant across all your computers. Venta offers that, and still lets Claude's models answer when you connect your Anthropic key.
Why people look for an alternative
- They want models from several companies in one app, and to switch between them per task.
- They already pay for API access and want to use it in a full assistant.
- They want to go past a plan's limits by paying a provider directly for what they use.
- They want one assistant across their Windows, macOS and Linux computers.
What Venta does
- Answers with its included AI, or with your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI or Cerebras account.
- Runs the commands you approve and reads the files you choose on a computer you link.
- Lists your linked computers under Your devices, so you ask for each one by name.
- Keeps a task's place after you close the tab, and picks it up on its next run.
How it reaches your computer
Venta runs in your browser. To work on a computer, you link it once: a desktop app on Windows, or a one-file agent on macOS and Linux. After that Venta can read files there and run commands — only the ones you ask about, and only while the app is running.
What it asks before doing
You set a ceiling for what Venta may do on its own, and lower ceilings for particular tools. Purchases and deletions ask first unless you have allowed that kind of action, and a yes you give lapses on its own. Each command it runs is shown in the conversation as it happens.
Keep Claude's models
Switching assistants does not mean giving up Claude's models. Add your Anthropic API key under Settings, then Your AI, and pick a Claude model; Anthropic bills you directly for that use, and Venta does not count those messages against your plan.
What it looks like in practice
You draft a proposal with a Claude model on your Anthropic key, ask a model from another provider to tighten the wording, then ask Venta to save the result to the Documents folder on your office PC and tell you the file name. One conversation, three steps, and you approve the one that touches your computer.
When Claude is the better fit
If you want Anthropic's own app and the features it builds around its models, stay with Claude. Anthropic says its desktop app also works with the folders and applications on your computer, so reaching your files alone is not a reason to switch.
What it does not do
- It does not drive your mouse and keyboard the way a remote-desktop session does; it runs commands and reads files.
- It is not made by Anthropic, and it does not use your Claude account or its history.
- It does not read folders you did not link or ask about.
What it costs
Free to try with 10 messages a month and no card. Paid plans start at $9 a month and include an AI allowance; connecting your own provider account does not use it.

Questions people ask first
- Can I use Claude's models in Venta?
- Yes, with your own Anthropic API key: add it under Settings, then Your AI, and pick a Claude model. Anthropic bills you for that use directly, and Venta does not count those messages against your plan.
- Do I need to install anything?
- Not to chat: Venta runs in the browser, phones included. To let it work on a computer, install Venta for Windows or run the one-file agent on macOS and Linux.
- Is there a free version?
- Yes. The free plan includes 10 messages a month on the included AI, with no card, and messages through your own provider account are not counted against it.
- Is it safe to let an AI run commands on my computer?
- Venta reaches a computer only while its app is running, only in the folders you point it at, and inside the ceiling you set. Purchases and deletions ask first, and every command it runs is shown in the conversation.
- Does work continue when I close the tab?
- A task keeps its place when you close the tab. Venta's worker picks it up on its next run — today that can be up to a day — and a task that needs your own computer waits for that computer to be online.
