What is agentic AI?
Agentic AI is AI that pursues a goal with some independence: it plans, takes actions with tools, checks the results and adjusts, instead of waiting for a prompt at every step.
The word describes a behaviour, not a product. A system is more or less agentic depending on how much it may decide without asking.
How it works
Agentic systems combine a model that can plan, tools it can call, and a loop that feeds the results back. What makes a system more agentic is how much of that loop runs without a person: choosing the next step, recovering from an error, deciding the task is done.
Most practical systems sit in the middle. They act freely on low-risk steps, such as reading or searching, and stop for approval on high-risk ones, such as sending, paying or deleting.
Examples
- Handing over an outcome, such as "organize my Downloads folder by type", instead of typing each command.
- A routine that runs every morning and reports only what changed.
- A task that pauses for your approval, then carries on where it stopped.
Limitations
- More independence means more chances to act on a misunderstanding.
- Without a record of each step, it is hard to check that a long run did what was intended.
- An agentic system is only as capable as its tools and the model behind it.
How Venta uses it
Venta lets you choose how far it goes on its own. You set a ceiling for what it may do without asking, and lower ceilings for particular tools. Each step of a task is recorded, and a task can be paused, resumed, or replayed from its record.
Questions people ask first
- Is agentic AI safe?
- It depends on the limits around it. Look for approvals before anything that cannot be undone, a visible record of each step, and a way to stop a task.
- Do I need to code to use agentic AI?
- No. In Venta you describe the outcome in plain words, and the system plans the steps.
- How is agentic AI different from automation?
- Classic automation follows steps someone wrote in advance. Agentic AI decides the steps from a goal, so it copes with cases nobody wrote down, and can also get them wrong.
