AI task automation software: what it is, and which kind you need.
AI task automation software does work you would otherwise do step by step, using an AI model to understand what you want: planning tasks into a calendar, moving data between apps, or carrying out a task on your computer.
There are three kinds, and they solve different problems. This page explains each one, compares them in one table, and says where Venta, an AI assistant that does tasks on your computer, fits and where it does not.
What AI task automation software does
Classic automation follows rules you write: when this happens, do that. AI task automation adds a model that reads a request in plain words, works out the steps, and adapts when something is not where it expected.
The trade-off is that a model can misread a request. Good tools show their steps, and ask before anything consequential, such as sending, buying or deleting.
The three kinds
- Calendar and task planners, such as Motion, use AI to plan your tasks, projects and meetings into your day.
- Workflow automation tools, such as Zapier and Make, connect apps and run a workflow when something happens in one of them.
- Agents that act on your computer, such as Venta, take a task you describe and carry it out on your files and devices, with your approval.
The automation built into your system — Shortcuts on Apple devices, Power Automate on Windows — is a fourth option, for a fixed routine on one device.

Where Venta fits
- Multi-step tasks: describe the outcome, approve the plan, and Venta carries it out with its tools, checking each step.
- Scheduled tasks: a helper runs a task daily, weekly or monthly, on Venta's daily check rather than at an exact minute.
- Commands on your own computers: on a Windows, macOS or Linux computer you link, it runs the commands you approve and reads the files you choose.
- Your own AI account: use the included AI, or connect your OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI or Cerebras key, which Venta does not count.
A task to try
Say it in one sentence, like the one below. Venta proposes a helper from it, creates it when you say yes, and runs it on its daily check.
Every weekday, check the three supplier pages I follow and tell me only what changed.
How to choose
- If the problem is a crowded calendar, start with a planner.
- If the same steps repeat between the same web apps, a workflow tool is built for that.
- If the task changes each time, or ends on your own computer, an agent that acts there fits.
- Many people use more than one: a planner for the day, and an agent for the work itself.
Limitations
- Venta is not a calendar planner: it does not arrange your tasks and meetings into your day.
- It is not a workflow builder with ready-made connectors to thousands of apps; its connections to Microsoft 365, Slack and Notion are in beta.
- Scheduled tasks start on a daily check, not at an exact minute.
- It does not drive your mouse and keyboard the way a remote-desktop session does; it runs commands and reads files.
- A task that needs your computer waits until that computer is on and running the app.
What it costs
Free to try with 10 messages a month and no card. Paid plans start at $9 a month and include an AI allowance; connecting your own provider account does not use it.

Questions people ask first
- What is AI task automation software?
- AI task automation software does work you would otherwise do step by step, using an AI model to understand what you want: planning tasks into a calendar, moving data between apps, or carrying out a task on your computer.
- How is Venta different from Motion or Zapier?
- Motion plans your tasks and meetings into your calendar, and Zapier connects apps into workflows. Venta takes a task you describe and carries it out, including on a computer you link, asking before anything consequential. They solve different problems, and can be used together.
- Can it automate tasks on my own computer?
- Yes, on a Windows, macOS or Linux computer you link: Windows through the desktop app, macOS and Linux through the one-file agent. It runs the commands you approve and reads the files you choose, only while the app is running.
- Can I schedule a task to run every day?
- Yes. Describe the task and when, and a helper runs it daily, weekly or monthly. Today Venta checks for due helpers once a day, early in the morning UTC, so a run starts on that day's check rather than at an exact minute.
- Is it safe to let an AI run commands on my computer?
- Venta reaches a computer only while its app is running, only in the folders you point it at, and inside the ceiling you set. Purchases and deletions ask first, and every command it runs is shown in the conversation.
